An organized moment: laundry sorting

One of the main things I have noticed going from 2 kids to 3 is the amount of laundry and trash.  I can't remember but I think I did laundry just a few days ago, and again today!

Obsessed with: 7:00 p.m.

Not that I don't love spending the day two toddlers, but I love end of the day.
It is the best feeling.

The playroom is tidy.

Dinner has been made, eaten, and cleaned up.

Kids are bathed.

And in bed.

Now I have a few hours to relax before it starts all over again at 7 a.m.

Organized moment: unpacking

We just got home last night after a 10 day trip to New York.  It was so much fun seeing family, friends, visiting our favorite places.

But let's get down to the organized part.  When I walked in the door.  The house was just as a left it, perfectly organized... toys in their places, dishwasher was clean with only a few items to put away, beds made...  I could hear the sound of birds singing in my head.

Then arrived my nemesis....  THE SUITCASES.

Whenever we arrive home from a trip I am in usually in the worse mood, overwhelmed and stressed out because I feel the need to unpack within 5 minutes of walking in the door.  I hardly give myself a moment to check email, read my mail all in the effort to unpack in some sort of record time, as I am in the Organized and Obsessed Olympics...  Yesterday was a little different.

My first priority was putting the kids to bed.  And then I unpacked their suitcase and laid out all their clothes on the floor to be put away.  I may be crazy but I didn't want to disturb their reunion with their cozy beds just so that I can fulfill my obsession to be unpacked in record time.  That will be done this morning when they are up.

Next I brought the "laundry bag" to its proper home in the laundry room.  During the trip we use one bag for dirty clothing so that when we return home it is easy to take care of.  I actually didn't even start doing the laundry until this morning... although I am not looking forward to folding and putting away since all the clothing is mixed...  mine, his, kids.. oh my!

Then I unpacked our bag, put it all away.   A piece of cake.   After a long trip, I can't stand to look at those suitcases for any longer than needed.

How long does it take all of you to unpacked without a trace of your holiday lingering?

Guest Organizer: great grains

One reader had a great idea for eating healthy, while also making a cute display of grains in her kitchen.

Eating grains is a great way of sneaking fiber into your diet.  But here's the dilemma, while buying small boxes is a waste of money, the big boxes are awkward to store, and pretty unattractive.  The solution: mason jars with tags tied on with jute twine. This is definitely much more appetizing!  As an added organizational tool, she also tacked a 1-sheet list of cooking instructions for each to the inside of a kitchen cabinet, for reference.

Thanks Jenny... xo

Obsessed with: enamel top table

I got this enamel top table at a local antique store this week. It sits in the center of kitchen and has already proven to be super useful. It works as an extra work space for cooking, especially since we do not have a ton of counter space. The table is also a perfect spot to put your bags when you are getting ready to leave the house as well as place to drop your bags when you get home. I am definitely obsessed with this one!

An unorganized moment: my bathroom drawer

I have a confession to make... I have 2 messy drawers! One is in my bathroom, and the other is in the kitchen. Here's a peek...

His & Hers: bedside tables

As you all know by now, I am.... neat and organized. Other people around the house are not quite as neat. "His & Hers" features some spots that show his little messes around our home.

Organization tip: squeaky clean

These kids love bath time! I mean they seriously can spend hours in there. Part of the reason is because we have a collection of some really cool bath toys. But do not fear, their tub does not look like a toy store exploded (as if you would really think that!). As expected it is really neat and organized. Thanks to this amazing bath toy organizer.

I love it because it is simple, it suctions to the wall (no tools involved), you can see all the toys. The mesh bag is also great because you can take it on and off and the toys also dry well.

We used to have this one which was very cute, but it needs to be screwed into the wall which doesn't work well if you bathroom walls are tiled.

Organization tip: mini laundry

It may seem silly but we each have separate laundry baskets; one on my side of the closet, one on his & the kids share one.

The baskets are pretty small so they fill up fast, but this system works. I think it is good for a few reasons.

Since the baskets are not big, you never have heaps of laundry to wash and fold, which is dreadful. And when it comes time to putting it away, it all goes in the one closet so you aren't sorting it all out.

I usually do one basket every other day or so.... so it's just a little bit here and there. And as a rule, I never do laundry on the weekends.
